Children near school vulnerable of distracted driving accidents
We all expect drivers to be attentive and follow the rules of the road because such actions and conduct are required when operating a motor vehicle. Unfortunately, technology, conversations and other activities cause distractions for drivers. Failing to take notice of these distracting activities and ending them could result in a serious car accident.
Distracted drivers are a very dangerous breed of drivers, causing many dangers for all motorists, passengers, cyclists and pedestrians. However, vulnerable populations, such as children, are at a higher risk of being involved in a car accident caused by a distracted driver. According to a current study, children are more vulnerable due to busy roads that are near their schools.
This study focused on the top five worst counties in the U.S. when it comes to distracted driving. These included New York, Kings and Queens counties in New York state, San Francisco County and Miami-Dade county. Researchers discovered that roughly 88 percent of drivers use their phone their driving. Additionally, one in three drivers are engaged in unsafe or distracting behaviors while traveling in a school zone.
Children attempting to use a cross walk to cross the street are faced with the danger that a distracted driver will not see them. In these matters, those harmed in a distracted driver accident may have recourses. It is possible to hold the driver accountable for their wrongdoings and harm caused. A personal injury claim could help an injured party place liability on a distracted driver while also help them collect compensation for their losses and damages, such as medical bills, pain and suffering, rehabilitation and other related damages.
